Some still call it the worst play in football history.

Just over 10 years ago today.

Seahawks vs. Patriots.

Super Bowl XLIX.

A few yards from victory.

Instead of handing the ball to Marshawn Lynch, they passed.

Interception. Game over.

Fans were furious. For over 10 years it's been called the worst play call in Super Bowl history!

But true fans didn’t abandon the team.

Because real loyalty runs deeper than one bad call.

I wrote about this a decade ago (link below), and the lessons still hold today:

Loyal customers will forgive the odd mistake—if you’ve built enough trust.

Your strengths exist for a reason—use them.

When you screw up, own it.

Pete Carroll owned the call. People hated it, but at least they heard it from the top.

How often do companies take that level of responsibility?

Your customers are watching. Make the right call.
