The night before a big workshop, I was invited to dinner with a new client's team.

Everything seemed relaxed, casual, fun... except for one guy.

Sitting across from me: a sales veteran. 50 years in the game. Been there since the company's inception. And from the moment I walked in, he was sizing me up...

Not just skeptical. This man was radiating pure disbelief.

The kind that you can feel across the room. Every time I spoke a word, he'd throw in a snide comment, getting chuckles from others.

The dinner was turning into an impromptu roast—except I wasn't supposed to be in on the joke.

"What's this young consultant got to show me?" he quipped, loud enough for everyone to hear.

The next morning, I walked into that workshop knowing I had my work cut out for me.

Mr. "Seen-It-All" sat front and center, arms crossed, grin on his face, ready to pounce.

But here's where it gets interesting.

4PM rolls around. After hours of back-and-forth, practical exercises, and real-world examples, guess who approaches me? The skeptic himself, smiling ear-to-ear.

"I was wrong and I need to apologize," he confessed, almost sheepishly. "I didn't think you could teach me anything new, but... I've already started applying some of your ideas during break. It's working."

Even the CEO was floored. Their most stubborn, old-school holdout had become their most enthusiastic advocate—implementing changes before the workshop even ended.

The lesson?

No matter how long you've been in the game, real growth comes from staying open to new ideas.

The true pros? They're the ones who never stop learning.

So the next time you catch yourself thinking "I've seen it all," remember that dinner from hell.

The biggest breakthroughs don't happen when you're comfortable—they happen when you're willing to be proven wrong.

And if you're still convinced there's nothing left for you to learn? Let's grab dinner—I'll bring the insights, you bring that skepticism.

Dessert's on me. 😉
