My 1970 Land Rover wouldn’t start this weekend after a long winter in the garage.
Battery charged.
Fresh gas.
Cold, but everything should’ve worked.
These trucks are built for life. I’ve seen videos of people pull them out of forests after 45 years, and they still fire up.
Mine didn’t.
Just the engine spinning.
Then I did the old-school trick: splash of fuel in the carb, and boom! It fired right up.
Here’s what hit me:
A lot of companies are in the same spot.
They’ve got smart people. Solid products. Good systems.
But growth stalls.
Sales feel sluggish.
Customer loyalty wobbles.
Everyone’s busy, but nothing’s catching.
They keep turning the key, hoping momentum magically shows up.
It won’t.
And the fix isn’t a rebuild.
It’s getting your team focused on the few things that actually move the business forward.
The stuff that drives revenue.
Keeps customers.
And gets buried in Slack, Zooms, and busywork.
Here’s the gut check:
Ask your team:
“What are the 3 things you do every day that directly drive growth?”
Then ask:
“Can you explain how?”
If the answers are scattered or vague, there’s your problem.
The engine’s fine.
It just needs a spark.
