That promotion you deserve? Someone else got it.

That promotion you deserve? Someone else got it.

That raise you should’ve had? It went to your coworker who asked for it.

That deal you almost closed? Someone bolder got the business.

This week, I watched my 11-year-old daughter, Ella (with her cousin Henry, who is a bit more reserved), meet the biggest names in hockey:

Dylan Larkin.

Sidney Crosby.

Connor McDavid.

Nathan MacKinnon.

No connections. No VIP access.

She just walked up and politely asked.

But here’s the thing—she didn’t shove a pen in their faces demanding an autograph.

She wasn’t pushy.

She wasn’t annoying.

She was confident.

And it worked.

Meanwhile, most people sit back.

They hesitate.

They overthink.

They wait for permission.

And they watch opportunities pass them by.

The truth?

The best opportunities don’t go to the smartest.

Or the hardest workers.

Or the most talented.

They go to the ones who ask.

The worst they can say is no.

But what if they say yes?

Stop waiting.

Start asking.
