Yesterday, I told the story of a company that lost a huge contract. Not to a competitor. They lost it to their own incompetence.
Here’s the worst part: after a story like that, most leaders panic and do the dumbest thing possible.
They start adding more process.
More checklists.
More approvals.
More layers of red tape.
They build bureaucratic nightmares that make people slower, more fearful, and guarantee that good people will eventually fail.
Here’s the brutal truth:
Process should protect your people, not punish them.
If your system requires intelligent people to work like robots, you already lost.
If your system adds more time than it saves, you’re not building safety, you’re building quicksand.
A good system catches mistakes early, frees up your team to do their best work, and clears the fog of confusion that kills companies from the inside out.
Every leader needs to remember:
Simple processes work.
Keep it simple!!!!!
Protect your people.
And for the love of growth, stop building systems that treat your people like the enemy.
What’s the simplest process you’ve implemented that actually made your team better?
