We’ve all seen it: companies sending their teams to extreme, high-energy motivational events, hoping they’ll return as productivity powerhouses.
This cartoon takes me back—I used to work with an artist to create little comics like this based on things I was hearing from companies and clients.
And honestly, I always tell my clients before paying me (or any speaker) an enormous amount of money to speak: It’s probably not going to create the change you’re hoping for.
As this cartoon suggests, raking your team over the coals doesn’t necessarily sell more hammers.
If you’re serious about driving results, skip the theatrics and focus on what really matters:
1. Simplify your sales process. Complexity kills momentum.
2. Align sales and marketing efforts. Teams win when they work together.
3. Build practical, actionable strategies. Empower your team and people to act tomorrow, not someday.
Motivation has its place—after all, I get the appeal of big, energy-filled experiences like firewalking.
But let’s be honest: when it comes to real, lasting growth, nothing beats clarity, focus, and a simple, effective plan.
